Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
- The text complies with the stylistic and bibliographic requirements defined in the Guide for Authors .
- You have duly completed the data file.
- You have completed and signed the declaration of authorship and originality .
- The file containing the text of the article does not identify in any of its parts authorship data. This data is recorded in a separate file.
- Where possible, URLs are provided for references.
- There are no conflicts of interest with the research in general, the topic developed in the article, or with the products/items or organizations cited.
Author Guidelines
Cuadernos de Ingeniería is a scientific publication of the Faculty of Engineering of the Catholic University of Salta, Argentina, created in 2006 (e-ISSN: 2545-7012 / ISSN: 2545-692X) and published under the imprint EUCASA (Ediciones Universidad Católica de Salta).
It is an open access magazine published under the Creative Commons license (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike). Since 2024 it has been published under the Online First model (articles are published online as they are accepted, without waiting for the publication of an issue or volume), and focuses on topics in the broad field of engineering in all its branches (Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, etc.), with both a specific and interdisciplinary approach.
It gathers scientific articles (product of research or technological development), review articles, essays and book reviews, related to the thematic field of the journal. These are original and unpublished texts, which are submitted to a process of external evaluation to the publishing house (double-blind) for acceptance.
LCuadernos de Ingeniería has been incorporated to the Latindex Catalog (Regional Information System for Scientific Journals in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal), version 2.0 Folio 22986.
General Guidelines
The authors who publish in this journal accept the following conditions:
a. The authors retain the copyright and assign to the journal the right to the first publication.
b. Authors may make other independent and additional contractual agreements for non-exclusive distribution of the version of the article published in this journal (e.g., inclusion in an institutional repository or publication in a book) as long as they clearly indicate that the work was first published in this journal. To this end, and as a possibility, the link to UCASAL's Institutional Repository is provided.
The institution supports open access to knowledge, therefore the journal provides full access to all its content and it does not have any cost, both to the author and to the readers.
The journal adheres to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike , and the works are collected in UCASAL's Institutional Repository.
Collaborations that do not comply with the guidelines indicated in these regulations will be returned to the authors with a deadline for adaptation. Once this has been done, it will be registered with the date of reception and the process of external evaluation will begin.
External Evaluation
All work received is subject to a peer review process —two evaluators who are external to UCASAL. If a disparate result is obtained, a third party is consulted. In all cases, the decision to publish is made by the Editorial Board on the basis of the opinions expressed by the referees.
The evaluation system is double-blind, that is, the referees remain anonymous, unless they expressly request to contact the author, in which case the Editorial Board favors intercommunication; the authorship of the works is also anonymous.
In order to guarantee, as far as possible, the application of similar criteria when evaluating, specialists are provided with an evaluation form where the standards required for collaborations in general and for each type of writing in particular are specified.
The evaluators will complete the evaluation form with their opinion on the decision to be taken from among the following, which will finally be considered by the Editorial Board:
Publishable without modifications.
Publishable with slight modifications:, i.e., the work is returned to the author with a list of minor corrections, requesting that they be incorporated into the final version of the manuscript.
Examples of minor changes: typographical errors, articles cited in the text that do not appear in the cited literature or vice versa, moderate changes to the wording.
Return of the article for substantial modifications, i.e., the article is returned with a list of important issues that the author must address in order for the work to be considered again.
Examples of major changes: justifying arguments, adding or redoing tables and figures, rewriting the discussion in light of unconsulted literature, substantial changes to the wording.
Non-publishable, i.e., the evaluation of the referees is communicated, informing the reasons for non-publication. This decision will almost always be final.
Examples of reasons for non-publication are:content of the article not sufficient in terms of treatment of the subject, gross violations of the rules of publication, articles lacking significance or merit.
The result is communicated to the authors, who have the opportunity to adjust their work according to the recommendations of the referees. In case they require modifications (substantial or slight), they will be asked to specify whether or not a new revision of the final text resulting from the author's correction is necessary.
Submitting Originals
The call for papers remains open permanently. As collaborations are entered, the evaluation process begins so that, once the volume of texts required is completed, the issue is closed and everything that enters from there is programmed for the next number. In the same way, once the process of reviewing and editing an article is completed, it is uploaded to the journal's portal, in a pre-print instance.
The journal has the following text types:
A scientific article is a written and published report describing original research and/or development results. It is a special type of document that contains certain kind of information, in an established order. The IMR&D method (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion) is widely used in various scientific disciplines.
It is a document whose objective is to disseminate in a clear and precise manner, in a regular extension, the results of a research carried out on a specific area of knowledge. Generally, it presents the background of a study, its justification, the methodology that has been used, the results that have been obtained, the scope of the work and suggestions for further research related to the problem that has been addressed.
A scientific article is used to report the results of a scientific research: "a systematic, organized and objective process, whose purpose is to answer a question or hypothesis and thus increase knowledge regarding something unknown" (Villamil, 2009).
CloseIt is a writing that accounts for a theoretical and methodological reflection in relation to the field of a specific discipline. It is an exercise of argumentation of ideas around a question, objective or central hypothesis; a reflective exercise where the author exposes arguments supported by theory or empirical references, in a clear and coherent way.
It is composed of three parts (which may or may not be subtitled): 1. introduction, where the central question, objective or hypothesis that guides the discussion is defined; 2. argumentation, which constitutes the body of the essay, is supported by empirical evidence and/or theory that contributes to the analysis of the addressed topic; 3. conclusions, where the central arguments are recovered and a deeper reflection is made on them as they serve the author to issue his own opinion as an answer to the initial question or hypothesis.
CloseA bibliographic review is a type of scientific article that, without being original, compiles the most relevant information on a specific topic. A review article is considered as a detailed, selective and critical study that integrates the essential information in a unitary and overall perspective (Icart & Canela, 1994). A review article is not an original publication and its purpose is to examine the published bibliography and place it in a certain perspective (Ramos et al, 2003).
According to Guardiola & Saracevik, review articles fulfill the following functions in the development of science and technique
• Compact and synthesize fragmented knowledge.
• Update and inform on the state of a subject.
• Transmit new knowledge.
• Inform and evaluate published literature.
• Compare information from different sources.
• Substitute primary documents.
• Learn about research trends.
• Identify emerging specialties.
• Detect new lines of research.
• Suggest ideas for future work.
• Contribute to teaching.
CloseIn the case of a bibliographic review, only the following components should be included:
• Bibliographic data of the book reviewed, according to APA standards
• Review type (descriptive/critical)
• Review text (up to 3,000 words)
CloseThe responsibility for the opinions expressed in the texts and for intellectual property respect lies with the authors.
The collaboration of the editors, authors and evaluators of this journal and the guide to ethics in editorial processes is governed by the Principles of Transparency and Good Practice in Academic Publications of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)). All articles submitted to this publication will be monitored through an online search and through plagiarism detection software.
The languages of the journal are Spanish and English. Each paper includes title, abstract and keywords in both languages.
The author registers in the journal's portal with a username and password and follows the indications provided by the system.
The following elements should be included:
• Text of the article, having deleted all authorship data both in the text and in the file properties

• In case of including images in the text, these must be placed in the corresponding place and, in addition, be uploaded to the platform as individual image files, duly identified, in .jpg, .npg or .pdf format
Editorial Standards
In order to unify the criteria to be taken into account for the presentation of works intended for publication, the following Editorial Standards and Standards for Bibliographic References are established.
Word files
Any work proposed for publication should not present grammatical problems.
Font size and type: Times New Roman, 12.
Avoid footnotes.
The different sections and subsections should be differentiated by means of Arabic numbers, up to a third level as:
1. Level 1
1.2 Level 2
1.2.1 Level 3
Avoid using CAPITAL LETTERS in full words.
Do not use underlining or bold in the body of the text. Bold type will only be used for titles and subtitles.
"Quotation marks" will be used for textual quotations or to mark the emphasis on a word or expression. Never overlay quotes and italics.
Italics will indicate: neologisms and terms belonging to other languages, as well as titles of publications or works (books, magazines, newspapers, paintings),
It is recommended to avoid highlighting words or phrases. If necessary, stick to the previous indications.
The following extensions are recommended for each text type:
Scientific articles: up to 15,000 words, including abstract, notes and bibliography.
Scientific essays: up to 10,000 words.
Review articles: up to 8,000 words.
Bibliographic reviews: up to 3,000 words.
The indication of the extension of the different types of texts is only for illustrative purposes and to provide the author with a basic parameter. Therefore, the non-fulfillment of this requirement will not be excluding in the decision of the evaluator.
In general, an extension not exceeding 25 A4 pages is considered appropriate. If this is not the case, and if it is possible in view of the understanding of the work, it is recommended to divide the article into two parts, in an appropriate way so that each one has a complete entity, which can be published in the same issue or in the next one.
Text Structure
The text file that is submitted must contain the following components in the order indicated below:
• Title of the paper, in Spanish and English. In the next line, in parentheses, clarify if it is a scientific article/scientific essay/popular science note.
• Abstract in Spanish (up to 200 words)
• Palabras clave (máximo 5 descriptores)
• Abstract (hasta 200 palabras)
• Keywords in English (maximum 5 descriptors)
• Text of the article. Whenever possible and appropriate to the approach of the article, the body will preferably follow the IMR&D structure: Introduction, Methodology, Results and Conclusions/Discussion of the results. If this structure is not followed, it is advisable to include an introduction, a development of the work and the conclusions, each section with its corresponding subtitles.
• Bibliographic references (according to APA standards). They are listed in alphabetical order at the end of the article, under the title REFERENCES, without section number.
Figures: All illustrations including photos, diagrams, maps and charts are classified as figures. These should be uploaded to the OJS system in the supplementary files section of the submission. They will be numbered with Arabic numerals and should have a brief descriptive legend, placed at the bottom. The format will be .png, .tif, .jpeg; in a resolution of 300 ppi or more.
They must appear in the body of the text in the correct place, centered. Each figure must be cited in the text according to the order of appearance and in the following format: (Figure 4) or (Figures 4 and 5). They should be made according to the model of the APA standards.
The journal's editorial team assumes that the authors have the authorization to reproduce the graphics and images included in their text, and therefore delegates to them any responsibility that may arise from improper use.
Tables: Tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals in the order in which they are cited in the text (e.g., Table 1). They should contain a brief descriptive legend placed at the top and should be centered in the text. The content of the tables should not duplicate the information that has been developed in the work, but rather complement it. They should be prepared according to the model of the APA standards.
Equations: those not included in a paragraph of the text, should be centered and the order number must be placed in parentheses and with Arabic numbers. In the text they are referenced as follows: "... in equation (2) it is observed..."; the word "equation" can also be dispensed with, especially in the case of mathematical developments involving several of them: "... replacing (2) in (10) of obtains the expression (11)...".
Units: must be expressed in the International System of Units (SI).
Standards for Bibliographic References
Citations and bibliographic references will be made according to APA standars.
• Please note: all works cited or referred to in the text must be included in the section on Bibliographic References; consequently, only the titles mentioned in the body of the work should be included.
• Bibliographic references should not be included in footnotes. They should be inserted in the text, in parentheses and, additionally, with all the information according to APA standards, at the end of the text, under the heading "References".
• Order of the bibliography: alphabetical.
Digital Preservation Policies
This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archive of its content ensuring the generation of replicas.
Actions are also carried out at the server level, as well as backup, preservation and archiving policies, guaranteeing the reconstruction of the entire journal collection and the preservation of each published digital content. Automated background processes (CRON) are managed, generating complete backups of the entire database and article repository of the OJS system, and their deposit in digital storage services external to the journal's server.
Deadlines
The current deadlines for acceptance of submissions and assignment of reviewers for the beginning of the evaluation process are between 15 - 20 days. In the case of contributions approved for publication and included in the table of contents of an issue of the journal, the deadline will depend on the date corresponding to the next issue considering the exact date on which the result of the refereeing process is communicated to the authors.
